I think this code is correct but with my nodemcuv2 esp cabled it does not show animations. When the controller is running and the leds get repowered one frame gets displayed but then it stops again.
It must be some kind of electronic issue I think. Please have a look at the code but also think about a hardware issue and its solution.
DON'T MERGE
Setup:
12V -> step down to 5V -> esp in
esp button and annimation code seam to run but not display.
esp gpio 3.3V -> level converter -> 5V signal to led strip
led strip has 12V
