20% [████░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░] 5/25 [Programmer]I started my adult life as a US Marine during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I left the service as a Corporal of Marines. After the military I earned an Associate of Science, followed by a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University. Both degrees are in Mechanical Engineering Technology, which led me to start my career as a Mechanical Engineer.
During my time as a Mechanical Engineer I specialized in R&D and Product Development, working on new products such as automotive RF connectors, fiber optic connectors and components. I became a CAD and PDM administrator, which is ultimately what got me interested in programming. Initially just automating administration with scripts and automations with VBA and the like.
Then the 2020 pandemic hit, and having a lot more free time, I decided to begin teaching myself how to program. I started out with Python, mostly writing plugins for Plex Media Server. Since then, it has been difficult to separate me from my keyboard. In 2023, I took a chance and left my Mechanical Engineering career to pursue programming full-time. So far, no regrets!
Outside of work, I'm a husband and father. I also maintain LizardByte, an organization focused on self-hosted services such as game streaming. Open source has been an interesting journey, and I'm excited to see where it takes me next!
