Firefox tabs from other devices and Plasma integration not working

Describe the bug

Whenever I check Firefox overview for tabs from other devices I am met with this:

Also Plasma Browser Integration extension refuses to work.

I've resetted Flatseal permissions, reinstalled Firefox (cleared profiles and local files) yet it refuses to work as expected on Bazzite.

What did you expect to happen?

I expected Firefox overview to show my tabs from other devices when I'm logged in and synced.
I expected Plasma Browser Integration extension to work (No such native application org.kde.plasma.browser_integration).

Extra information or context

I have both Bazzite and Aurora installed (on different systems). Aurora works perfectly, both Firefox tabs from other devices show up and Plasma Browser Integration work. Both systems are on the same Firefox version: 152.05

I use KDE Plasma nvidia-open-stable version of Bazzite (fully updated) and Aurora stable (44.20260511.1)

Nope. Still not working. The solution I suggested in the post is switching to Aurora since both of those things just work there. (tabs from other devices stopped working after a while)

Maybe Bazzite can do whatever Aurora did to make it work out of the box as well.

So, from what I could gather from the thread I linked is that, basically, the flatpak-integrator does not like symlinks and in my Bazzite install $HOME is set to /home/username which is a symlink. This seemingly was the case in Aurora too at time of the thread, but has since changed because in my Aurora install, $HOME instead points to /var/home/username. It looks like maybe this was fixed upstream (Kinoite) in F44, so since my Bazzite install is originally from F43, but my Aurora install is from F44, this may explain the difference.

Meaning future Bazzite installs should not have this problem, existing installs from before F44 do have it. Can someone confirm this in a new Bazzite install?

The solution for existing systems then is to use usermod to change $HOME (see the linked thread in my earlier comment). This worked for me. Of course it would be nice if an update script or something could do this automagically for all affected users.

I installed Bazzite like one month ago, it was based on Fedora 44 and I yet have the issue... You're right, echo $HOME returns /home/my-username...

I did change $HOME to /var/home/myusername from another account like suggested in the guide. I rebooted back into my OS account, cleaninstalled firefox flatpak, logged back into firefox account and... still not working. 🫠

My original Bazzite install was F44 for sure. All I use is the desktop version.

I guess I should have specified that I was only talking about the Plasma integration. I did the usermod thingy and just logged back into my actual account and it worked. Though, I am using the LibreWolf fork instead of upstream Firefox.
Tabs from other devices do not work for me on Aurora or Bazzite, though that could be a LibreWolf issue.

You are right indeed. Plasma integration does work on Aurora, but Tabs from other devices stopped working for me after a while. I even did Aurora cleaninstall for the sake of it to confirm it. I don't know whether that's upstream's fault or something else.

What I also noticed is that Tabs from other devices do not show up in the firefox overview (the left most button on the titlebar), but they do show up when I click on my account icon, strange...

This is an issue for the Firefox team. We ship the flatpak completely unmodified.

@KyleGospo Does the "not planned" also apply to the issue of $HOME pointing to a symlink? I assumed it would be fixed in upstream Kinoite 44 (see here), but as @Sebi11 pointed out, that does not seem to be affecting Bazzite 44 as I had hoped.
flatpak-integrator will not work when $HOME points to a symlink (see here), which makes flatpak browsers less usable on Bazzite than they could be.

@KyleGospo For what it's worth, I just downloaded the latest Kinoite ISO and installed it. $HOME points to /var/home/username there, not to the symlink.
