And thank you for using to to improve OSM! ❤️
When you press sniper-scope circle (or nav.triangle) button in bottom right part of the screen, the screen is updated so you're positioned on the center of it. And if you change it to navigation mode (i.e. that orange triangle is shown), then it will be following you as you move. What we used to have was (almost?) exactly what you want - the crosshairs where the item would be added used to be also positioned in the center of the screen - thus clicking (the sniper-scope followed by) Alas, crosshairs have been moved upwards from the center (there is an issue or PR which was discussing that change, but I lack the time now to find it -- but you might wish to look for it). Perhaps in there might be an idea if something like that might be possible again, as your use case does sound reasonable to me (and not only for RTK, but for regular GPS also if signal is good -- even if you have to move it a little to the left or the right1) That being said, when things are discussed and one course of the action is chosen, it is usually much harder to change it back again.
Not to sound discouraging, but StreetComplete is usually quite averse2 even to adding extra options, not to mention extra buttons on the main screen. We do have SCEE (SC "expert edition") fork, which is more open to having plethora of options (while by default looking and acting pretty much exactly like StreetComplete), so that might be the option worth considering if you don't make it in SC. Hello, and many thanks to all of you for developing StreetComplete! :)
This is very possibly a nitpicking subject, but I have a really precise GPS receiver (RTK-capable), so I can easily pinpoint objects I want to add. For large zone or features, I usually use a dedicated GIS app and edit the map at home. However for small features I sometimes do it on the spot, so it would be really convenient if there was a button (or an option in settings to make it the default behavior so the interface stays light) to make the cross follow my position. That way I could just hover my receiver over a bench, tap "+", "bench icon", validate, and have at the right place directly.
What do you think? Would it be useful to others (and not too complicated to implement)?
