Use Panoramax to keep note's images

Instead of uploading note's images to a webspace, is creating a Panoramax instance for StreetComplete only an option? Analog to the mapcomplete instance? Is storage for the images the limiting factor? Or is it any legal issue? ATM, the images are deleted once the note is resolved because of?
Or maybe we could use the mapcomplete instance with StreetComplete if we ask the mapcomplete team?

most important: moderation issues, temporary storage linked to OSM notes makes it a less attractive target to abuse

note that multiple image storage service used previously by StreetComplete were shut down, some due to abuse

some of replacements like https://wtf.roflcopter.fr/static/abuse.html were also shut down due to abuse

and framapic was shut down due to lack of resources to maintain it, which also applies here

I am definitely not interested in spending effort on it as a hobby time, and I am not expecting to find grant for that. Especially as expected benefits are tiny. If someone has funds for that - I have much better ideas how to use them for improving OSM or StreetComplete specifically.

Just wanted to let you know that if you want to keep a picture for whatever reason, you can use archive.is and when SC deletes the picture after the note is resolved then it's still online. You can even use a direct link to it.

Or upload your image to Wikimedia Commons under open license (which makes it legally usable to others, not only in very narrow fair use cases).

Or use Panoramax, as the this title of this issue suggest.

In any case, I'd advise caution against archive.is (which is more properly known as Archive.today for its primary domain name, as there are other TLDs involved, e.g. archive.ph etc.) as quite recently Wikipedia blacklisted Archive.today and started removing 695,000 archive links pointing there due to funny business going on there.

I wasn't aware of this "funny business" thanks for the link. The issue I find is that taking a photo for SC's note feature doesn't allways add geoloc on the photo to easily add to Panoramax

Yeah, SC never geotags them (because reasons). So I've written a small tool sc-notes-images which helps with it for my use cases, by adding location from Note to JPG EXIF headers (which makes them Panoramax compatible among other things)...

But be aware that in any case that it only works for your own images from SC Notes -- if you'd like to republish someone else's images, you'd have to ask them for copyright permissions explicitly, as they only (implicitly) granted a very narrow set of copyright permissions (i.e. only for temporary public display until the Note is fixed), as All (other) rights remain reserved.
