Editor crashes after repeatedly clicking the timeline seek bar (Unhandled Error dialogs before crash) #38488

Description

@cryzorium

Type

Crash to desktop

Bug description

Summary

Rapidly clicking different positions on the timeline seek bar at the bottom of the editor causes several unhandled exception dialogs to appear before osu! eventually crashes.

The issue started occurring recently and was already present before the Tachyon update released on 31 July 2026.

Reproduction

  1. Open the editor.
  2. Open the beatmap: https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/2255665#osu/4798513
  3. Repeatedly click different positions on the timeline seek bar at the bottom of the editor (around 3+ clicks per second).
  4. Continue clicking for a few seconds.

Expected behaviour

The playback position should update normally without errors or crashes.

Actual behaviour

  • One or more Unhandled Error dialogs appear ("This error has been automatically reported to the dev team.").
  • After enough clicks, osu! crashes.

Reproduction rate

  • 100% on the beatmap linked above.
  • Appears to occur on roughly 70% of beatmaps I tested.
  • I have not found a pattern (length, object count, etc.) that determines whether a beatmap is affected.

Additional information

  • Only happens when clicking the seek bar.
  • I have not been able to reproduce it by dragging the seek bar.
  • I exported the logs immediately after reproducing the issue getting the pop-up and managing to keep it from crashing so the logs gets saved (freshly after restarting the game).
  • I have attached:
    • Runtime logs.
    • A short video demonstrating the issue.
