Question about Gantry’s current status and roadmap for 2026

I would like to raise a question regarding the current status and future of the Gantry framework.

Since Gantry was taken over by Tiger12 after RocketTheme stepped away from the project, there seems to have been very little activity in terms of issue resolution and the merging of pull requests. Some of these open PRs have been available for quite some time and, in certain cases, only affect translations or minor improvements, which makes the lack of integration a bit concerning.

Because of this, I would like to ask:

• Is there currently an active maintainer or core team leading the Gantry project?
• Is the project still considered alive and under active development?
• Is there any plan to communicate clearly to the community if Gantry is effectively in maintenance mode or facing a full abandonment?

At the same time, it is worth noting that several companies — such as InspireTheme, JoomLead, and RcaTheme — continue to actively develop commercial products that depend on Gantry. This raises additional questions:

• Are any of these companies involved in maintaining or leading Gantry’s development?
• Are they contributing upstream, or are they relying on internal/custom forks of Gantry instead?

Ultimately, many of us in the community would appreciate some clarity around the long-term outlook of the framework.

What is the future of Gantry during 2026?

Thank you for the honest and detailed question—it's fair, and I appreciate you raising it directly. You're right: transparency has been light since last October (my last public posts/updates), and that's on us. We've been heads-down on development rather than frequent communication, which isn't ideal for the community.

To answer your points straight-up:
Is there currently an active maintainer or core team leading the Gantry project?
Yes—Tiger12 (led by me, Gene Teigland / @gteigland) is the official maintainer and steward of the Gantry framework and gantry.org. We stepped in after RocketTheme handed it off, and there's a small but focused core team pushing things forward. No large organization behind it—just dedicated folks keeping the project alive and evolving.

Is the project still considered alive and under active development?
Yes, very much so.

We released Gantry 5.6.0 just yesterday (February 23/24, 2026), with full Joomla 5 support, PHP 8.1–8.3 compatibility, platform tweaks, and fixes like the WordPress page assignment issue.
GitHub shows commits as recent as mid-February 2026 (Joomla 5 native changes, code cleanups, CHANGELOG updates).
The repo is active, with ongoing work on stability and compatibility—especially as platforms like Joomla, WordPress, and Grav keep moving.

Transparency and maintenance/abandonment status?
Gantry is not in pure maintenance mode and is definitely not abandoned. We're actively developing, but I own that communication has lagged. Going forward, we'll aim to post more regular updates (GitHub discussions, gantry.org blog, maybe X) even if it's just quick status notes. If things ever shift (e.g., to full maintenance-only), we'll announce it clearly and early—no ghosting.
Open PRs and issues?

Totally understand the frustration—some PRs (especially translations/minor ones) have sat for a while. The transition involved a full review of the backlog, re-testing everything against modern PHP/CMS versions, and prioritizing bigger lifts like Joomla 5 compatibility. We're now actively merging and addressing where they fit the current direction. If you have specific ones in mind, drop links in a GitHub discussion—I'll prioritize reviewing them personally.

Involvement from InspireTheme, JoomLead, RcaTheme, etc.?
They're great partners in the ecosystem—many build solid commercial themes/products on Gantry, which helps prove its value. But core upstream maintenance and direction is handled by the Tiger12 team. They sometimes share feedback or fixes when it helps their stuff, but no one is forking heavily or leading development. Upstream PRs from anyone (including them) are always welcome.

Future of Gantry in 2026?
We're excited and committed long-term.

• Gantry will always remain free and open-source (MIT/GPL)—that's core to the project.
• Our current focus is on developer tools and AI-assisted features within Gantry (e.g., smarter particle/outline generation, integration points for AI workflows, etc.).
• We're also developing optional add-on packages (premium/commercial extensions) to expand the feature set without gating the core framework.
• One specific addon we're actively working on is a conversion tool to help migrate past RocketTheme Gantry themes (like Quasar, Dominion, Galatea, Versla, or others from their old catalog) into the current Gantry setup using Helium (or Hydrogen) as the base—while aiming to maintain as much of the original design, layout, and styling as possible. This includes support for converting/ replacing legacy RocketTheme addons/plugins they bundled (e.g., RokSprocket, RokGallery, RokNavMenu, RokCandy, RokQuickCart, RokFeatureTable, and similar extensions that were common in their Gantry-powered themes).
• No firm promises on timelines or 100% perfect fidelity (legacy extensions can be tricky due to platform changes), but we think we can get there for most common cases and make upgrades much smoother for folks still on older RT setups.
• The next major release is Gantry 6.0, with deeper modern integrations (including MCP support—more details coming soon). We'll share a proper feature list and roadmap update in the next few weeks/months via GitHub and gantry.org to give everyone clear visibility.

Bottom line: Gantry has a solid path ahead under Tiger12. We're building for developers/designers who want flexibility, and we're here for the long haul. Sorry again for the quiet period—your question is a good nudge to get back to better community updates.

I have to say it’s genuinely great news to hear that Gantry is not only alive, but actively evolving — especially with the recent 5.6.0 release and the roadmap toward Gantry 6.0. Knowing that there is an active core team behind it, and that Tiger12 is committed long-term, brings a lot of confidence to those of us who rely on the framework.

I’m particularly excited about the focus on modernization and the exploration of AI-assisted features within Gantry. That forward-looking approach is exactly what frameworks need in order to stay relevant in the coming years. The migration/conversion tooling for legacy RocketTheme themes also sounds extremely valuable for the ecosystem.
