Can subscribe to all channel types except Presence

This is the first time I've attempted to use Presence channels, and I'm using Echo/pusher-js on a standalone Vue client with laravel-websockets running on the backend.

No Broadcast::routes() are used. I have a custom auth endpoint and private channels are working fine. I have debugged source files and $this->verifySignature($connection, $payload); is getting picked up for PrivateChannel subscriptions but I'm getting no activity at all on PresenceChannel joins.

I see though Pusher.com has a key:hash:#user_data pattern, laravel-websockets has a key:hash:channel_data pattern so that's what I've been using.

I am running websockets:serve to view the output, and I can get private-chat channel ok:

I have also noticed that if I call echo.join('chat') it will return a Proxy target/Handler in the console, but if I do echo.connector.pusher.subscribe('presence-chat') it will call to the auth endpoint:

But, either way it does not seem to get to laravel-websockets.

I'm just stumped at this point. Anyone have an idea of what could be blocking a Presence channel join?

I've confirmed the presence-chat pusher call is not getting to the ArrayChannelManager to even be parsed. I'm looking into the laravel-echo/pusher-js side of things.

I figued it out - the returned channel_data had a colon in front of it.

I also needed to change the double json encoding of the $channel_data to just one time otherwise I was getting error:

   TypeError
