Licensing

This repository is dual-licensed, depending on the type of content.

Specification and documentation — CC BY-SA 4.0

The hitchhiking data standard itself and all accompanying documentation are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

This covers:

  • STANDARD.md
  • tags/
  • README.md and other Markdown documentation

You are free to share and adapt the standard, provided you give appropriate credit and license your derivatives under the same terms.

Code — GNU AGPL v3

All source code is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0).

This covers:

  • python/
  • nostr/

If you run a modified version of this code as a network service, the AGPL requires you to make your modified source available to the users of that service.

Data

Datasets of hitchhiking rides collected using this standard are not covered by this repository's licenses. When publishing such datasets we recommend the Open Database License (ODbL), consistent with OpenStreetMap practice.
