i patched and built everything as described in the readme.
how do i install the patched version?

Assuming Linux, it should be as simple as moving the compiled binary (from the build subdir) to somewhere in your PATH (e.g. /usr/local/bin/). There is a service file in the debian subdirectory which can be moved to /etc/systemd/system/ as well. (Note I can't get it to build myself, so I'm just going from existing knowledge which may not be complete).
