Use Case

This is trickle down work from user guide creation and is the "start" screen/modal.

Suggest a Solution

1. Terminology consistency ("metadata file")
2. After a decent amount of research and thinking, Sean, I think your original term "data source" is still very appropriate! My rec after the survey is to weave those words into the subheading, continuing to reinforce same language we use in-app.
3. Removal of help text, with clear "Read guidance" linking to user guide page "Creating a metadata file"
4. To minimize vertical height, I stacked URL field and drag/drop box to side-by-side.
5. Changed some styling that I thought helped the descriptor file interaction experience and wording.

• Changed "Optional includes" to "Add supplemental metadata (optional):"
• Only shows after user adds primary metadata file
• Minor design tweaks

1. Good info/reminder! Yes, will change to "Provide".

2. Maybe the “Add supplemental metadata” could be more specific and say “(Optional) Describe columns | Describe provenance relationships” where “Describe columns” and “Describe provenance relationships” would be buttons like you have currently

I'm not sure if the action word "describe" is specific enough to what the user is doing at this point. They are providing, adding, or loading just like the main metadata file. However, I am not confident about the word "metadata" in "Add supplemental metadata". If they made these files, I think they already know what they are doing and we don't need to over explain here. In addition, noted in another comment you said you want to change "Metadata descriptor file" to "Column descriptor file". What do you think of this proposal?
